Great resort and accommodations. New mattress please!
The resort at San Destin is top notch and full of multiple activities. We stayed for seven nights and wished we had scheduled more. We took advantage of the free golf and fishing offers and no strings were attached. Regarding the Luau, the building is nice and well maintained. The condo was very spacious and easily accommodated my young family. My only complaint was the mattresses in both rooms need to be replaced. We made a trip to Walmart after the first night and purchased two cots for my kids to sleep on. Regarding the master bed, NY wife's back was sore throughout our stay due to the mattress.
We had a great time at Luau. The beach is a couple of minutes walk away from the condo. We visited Fudpucker's and Harry T's in Destin. Will visit again in the future.
I LOVE the Luau. We have stayed there for at least 4 years now for family vacation. NO complainers, except for one. The parking deck is small. I have no problem parking in overflow across from the complex but apparently, some people do. It is really dangerous how some people park. After a certain hour, parking places are taken and people "make their own space" to park. We left a couple of mornings where there were some cars might not be able to get out. It's not safe and really annoying.
A hop and a skip to the beach!
This was an excellent place for our small family. Just a short walk across the street and our toes were in white sand. The room was very clean and just the right amount of space we needed. I was impressed with the fully stocked kitchen; made cooking a breeze. Also, the tile was easy to sweep up the sand after our days at the beach; so glad we didn't have carpet!! There were only two set backs, but we made due with them: First, the room had a physical key entry and was very tricky to work (sometimes stood in the hallway for minutes messing with the key to get in; we wished it has a code entry instead) Second, a quarter of the parking lot was under construction and if you came home too late you had to park across the street). But over all, we were really happy with the room, the proximity to the beach and would highly recommend this room to any small family or single couple.
great view and great freebies
We have stayed in the sandestin area for the last 7 years and never used Destin Getaways, but from now on it will be the only one we use! All the freebies are amazing and we were kicking ourselves for not knowing about it sooner.
We love this place!
We loved staying at Luau. It was a great experience. The pool and the property are very nice! The staff at the location were very attentive and accomodating. It was an easy walk to the beach. We also got some great deals on excursions (deep sea fishing) by booking through Crye-Leike. The shuttle to the Village at Baytowne was also very convenient. We will be back!
Worked for us
We were on the 4th floor of the Luau II tower. The building and room were clean and quiet despite lots of families present. Our family of four never had a problem finding space at the pool, which was a quick ride down the elevator and out the door. Don't let anyone tell you there's a problem waiting for the elevator - there wasn't for us. Even though some of the underground parking was closed off, we always found a spot to park our car. Don't forget to check out the sunset deck on the 11th floor. That's a nice spot for a family photo, or romantic kiss.
We took full advantage of the shuttle service too. Several times we took the kids over to the Village for food, fun, etc. The Village at Baytown Warf was a great place no matter what you are looking for at night. You might have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for a shuttle, so, just factor that in - but it beats driving and parking.
The Unit itself had all the amenities we wanted. You can see the ocean (including the surf condition flags) from the balcony, albeit, the view is partially obstructed by the beachfront high rises. The top/bottom washer/dryer got a lot of use, and so did the fridge and microwave. The sleeper sofa is good for kids - not for adults who care about comfort. But, the king bed worked for us. The vanity area in the bathroom is a little small, but we managed.
The walk to the beach may be too much for some people, its maybe a 5 minute walk from room to sand. For us, it wasn't bad at all, even carrying a small cooler, umbrella, beach bag, backpack chair and a sand chair, along with two kids under 5 and their buckets, shovels, etc. Chair and umbrella service is available, but they block the view, so we like to set up our own in front of them!
As expected, the hot dog stand and Elephant Walk restaurant is pricey, but convenient. There is a tiki bar on the beach as well.
I've said enough - if you can get the place for under $1,400 for the week, then you got a deal. If not, then move on.
Hope to return next summer!!! We loved everything!!!
Luau 6427 was great for 2 adults, 1 yr old, 4 yr old and an 8 yr old. The place was clean and had all the essentials to start us off. Would recommend bringing a folding wagon for your stay. The walk to the beach from Luau II was not far and would be very easy for 5 year olds and up. However, it does get hot and the little ones do get tired from the heat. The kids loved the pool. They beach was great. Loved it more in the pm when all the chairs from Sandestin/Hilton were taken down. If you want to enjoy some jet skiing do not go to the marina at Sandestin - they are strict about it being 6 and up. We went to the harbor for jet skiing with the kids. They had a blast on the jet skiis.
Everything was great - room, service and checkin in. Was a little confused on where to go and check in but after I found out where it was fine. I plan on using this same company next year for my company trip planning back to Destin.
