The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation announced that Florida’s recreational red snapper season will be 52 days long. Red snapper season will open the Saturday before Memorial Day and close on July 15.

The decision to open the season just before Memorial Day was made in hopes of attracting more visitors to the Destin, Fl area during an important holiday weekend.

The federal recreational red snapper season is a mere 11 days long, lasting from June 1 to June 11.

State waters extend from the coast up to nine nautical miles, and federal waters from nine nautical miles out to 200 nautical miles out from shore.

Both state and federal waters will have a daily bag limit of two per person.

Depending on the projections from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on when the red snapper quota may be caught, the season dates may change.

So clean out your freezer and plan your Destin vacation, because there is snapper to be caught!!
